Buying a Car Worksheet

Actually there is none comment from friends about the worksheet, because I and my friends just look each others worksheet and there is not enough time for discuss about each worksheet when pair chat. 
But looking others and then trying the worksheet to my students, I have to revise it for making it's beautiful and meaningful. Firstly, I revised the directions because I think it better to make it step by step so the students will follow the instruction easily. Then I totally revised the story because there just a few information used from the story, so I put some information about credit and cash system. The last, I simply the questions because the basic information was explained at the story.

Graphing a Quadratic Function

1.    First of all you have to know that the equation of quadratic function is y=x2 + qx + r.
2.    Mostly the quadratic function has intersection with x-axis and or y-axis. So you have to find it to make you easily draw the graph.
3.    You will get the x-axis intersection by substitute the function you have using y=0. Maybe you will get one point, two point or not both. If you didn’t get any point, it means that the graph is located under the x-axis or upper the x-axis without have intersection with the x-axis.
If you get one point, it means the point you get is the vertex of the graph. And if you get two points, it means the graph has two intersections with x-axis. Because the normally found is two points, let us use it to be example. We called the intersection point with (a,0) and (b,0)
4.    Find the y-axis intersection by substitute x=0 to the function. The meaning of y-axis intersection that you get is similar with the meaning of x-axis intersection. Because we already choose two intersection points at the x-axis intersection before, so the y-intersection is just one point. Let’s called it (0,c).
5.    The next step of graphing is finding the vertex. Vertex can be found by using formula. But don not worry if you forget the formula, you may use this step; use the x-axis or y-axis intersection to count the vertex, in case axis has two intersections point with the grapd. For instance, if you get two intersections at y-axis you have to use it. And if you get two intersections at x-axis, let’s use that point to find the vertex. In logic, when the graph passing through two point at x or y, the vertex coordinate of x-axis or y-axis will be located at the central of the two point. As I already say that we will use the two intersection of x-axis as example, so we have point a and b at x-axis. Count the differences of that two, and then divide it by two. We called the result x=d.
6.    Finding the x-coordinate of vertex, substitute the x=d for finding the y-vertex coordinate. Then call it y=e. Hence we have the vertex coordinate at (d,e)
7.    You already have points: (a,0), (b,0), (0,c), and (d,e). Try to figure out that point’s to the graph.
8.    If you still doubt about your graph, substitute independent x point or y point to the function so you will get another coordinate for accurate the graph.

Math and Me



I was amazed Mathematics since I solve a unique problem at elementary school. That was a miracle I think. The story begins when I face a final test. I have study a lot, but at the test day I woke up early and want to study again. Praying subuh, I was interested by mathematics old book given by my brother’s friend. That was a book that never opened by me before. Accidently, I opened a strange page. I called it strange because I never see a math problem like that, then I knew that was an expert content. I tried to solve it, it was really difficult but I feel challenge and fun, so I continued solving that problem. Finally, I solve it but I spend an hour and then I hurry to go to school.
How surprised I am facing the test. There was a question that quite similar with the strange question I solve before. That was magic. In case, the latest similar question appeared more than 10 years ago before the test day.
Almost all my friend cannot solve the strange problem. They were worried about their score because the strange question is an essay question and have a big percentage for the final score. How about me? I run to the home ad hurry open the book. I solve the problem by using hint in the book. My answer is true. I’m really glad. By that time, I’m starting to like mathematics, and serve my early morning for studying mathematics. The next level, I chosen to be representative of my junior high school in mathematics Olympiad, twice. But, I was not the winner. That was OK, I was not sick of it. I know I just like the mathematics not the competition.
Continuing the level, I was not stars anymore at senior high school because there were many brilliant students. But, I still liked Mathematics. One day, all of students mandatory join a SUKEN test. It is a mathematics test from Japan. From hundreds students, there were 4 people who passes, I was included that one. The other day, I have chosen to join a mathematics test again. It was from University of New South Wales. The test using English, It was difficult for me. But, by the God way I passed the test and I get the certification of passing the grade level. Actually, my purpose in Math is not about winning a competition or something similar, I just like solving the problem, and I just like Math. It was a relief when I can solve a problem. I continued studying Mathematics in SSE. My history of me and Mathematics will be continuing then.
